  • A most attractive Waltham watch from the 1930's - English case, American Sapphire type movement - All in pretty good condition, the movement runs to time, the case snaps tightly to, excellent Art Deco dial, some small wear marks, but pretty good for I would estimate 95!

  • Period Leather strap, Case 28mmx36mm.

  • The Waltham Watch Company was founded in 1850 in Massachusetts and became a pioneer of American watchmaking by introducing the mass production of timepieces with interchangeable parts. While initially famous for pocket watches (such as the Model 1857 carried by Abraham Lincoln), Waltham's wristwatch history spans a major transition from early military trench watches to mid-century aviation and civilian timepieces. Originally starting in Roxbury before moving to Waltham, Massachusetts ("The Watch City"), Waltham produced tens of millions of pocket watches. As pocket watches transitioned to wrists during World War I, Waltham produced rugged field and trench designs, such as the Depollier Khaki around 1916.: In WW2 Waltham became a major supplier for Allied forces, manufacturing rugged field wristwatches, aircraft clocks, and navigation timers (like the iconic A-11 military-issue watch). These watches featured high-contrast black dials, bold Arabic numerals, and sturdy nickel or stainless-steel cases. As American domestic watch production faced heavy competition from Swiss and mass-market imports, Waltham shifted operations, establishing a Swiss subsidiary (Waltham International SA) in 1954 and eventually ending American factory production around 1957.

  • Later Ownership: The brand split into international and domestic lines, with Swiss operations continuing mechanical watch production and later eras utilizing Swiss and Japanese quartz movements under various owners.
