Ruhla's watch history began in 1862 with the Thiel brothers' company, which produced small metal items before moving into clockwork and mass-producing the "Fearless" pocket watch by 1892. After World War II, Ruhla became part of East Germany's VEB Uhrenkombinat Ruhla, produced the GDR's first electric wristwatch in 1963, and was a major global watch manufacturer by the 1980s. Following German reunification, the company was privatized, and the name continues today under the parent company POINTtec, which produces brands like Zeppelin and Iron Annie.
