Since its introduction in 1938, the line has been an integral part of the Hölstein-based manufacturer's catalog. Oris originally developed the watch as a tool watch for pilots. The large, easy-grip crown, which can also be operated with gloves, gives the model its name. Another characteristic feature is the pointer date, with a central hand pointing to the date on the outer edge of the dial . This gives the Big Crown Pointer Date its unmistakable character.
