Mondia "Moonlander" 1970 Automatic Winding Watch

Mondia "Moonlander" 1970 Automatic Winding Watch

£189.00Price
  • A superb example of this iconic watch - In outstanding condition, with a near perfect dial. A very cool watch 34mmx36mm chunky gold plated case, there is some plate loss, hidden by the brass below the gold - Runs well and keeps time, wonderful dial, soft champagne gold, with blue/black outer minute track, and applied batons - Day Date at three is semi quick set. - new strap.
  • On the case back there is a pressed image of the Lunar Module ( or moonlander) used to land men on the moon, and these were used between 1968 (test runs), 1969 with Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, and then on the remaining moon landings up until 1972.  In 1969 Mondia merged with Zenith and Movado, and this watch does not have any markings of the joint company so safe to assume a 1970 production date.

The AS 1816 movement is running to time - This day date movement is just semi quick set – you have to turn from midnight to 20.00 and back to midnight to set the date, and the day wheel has no quick set at all. The signed crown is original.  The acrylic crystal is new.
