1970s Smiths Astrolon By Tissot for Smiths Manual Watch

1970s Smiths Astrolon By Tissot for Smiths Manual Watch

£79.00Price

During the year, I wear over 250 watches, one of the "Perks" of the job, this Smiths will without doubt be the rarest watch I have had the pleasure of wearing this year.

In good condition, with the irreplaceable crystal being bright, and with just a few marks, we have presented the watch on a dark blue strap, which matches the outer journal.

The revolutionary partially plastic movement which is working to time is signed Agon Watch Company (part of Tissot) and It is commonly found in otherwise conventional looking Tissot watches in the 1970's and 80's. The horologic-ally historic maintenance free part plastic movement, the development of which caused severe financial difficulty for Tissot ultimately became the Swatch movement.

The watch measures 35mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is in chrome plated excellent condition. The front lens is in fairly good condition. The back viewing lens has light marking . The case is marked as being water resistant but, as with any vintage watch, it should be kept away from water and moisture. The movement is shock resistant.

Smiths stopped production of their own watches in 1970 and instead bought in Swiss and Japanese watches, such as this Astrolon. Overall an excellent collector's item.
