Roamer watches were founded in 1888 by Fritz Meyer in Solothurn, Switzerland, starting as a small workshop producing cylinder escapements before evolving into a renowned independent watch manufacturer. Fritz Meyer founded the company in Solothurn, initially focusing on watch escapement components. The business transitioned into a full watch producer (etablisseur) and developed its first movement, the "Number 38" calibre. In 1905 Meyer partnered with watchmaker Johann Stüdeli to form the famous Meyer & Stüdeli (MST) partnership, in 1908 The company first registered the Roamer brand name, initially using it for higher-end jeweled lever-escapement watches. The company incorporated officially as Meyer & Stüdeli SA. 1923: Production rapidly scaled, reaching an impressive milestone of 1 million watch units annually. 1930s–1940s: MST became largely self-sufficient, manufacturing its own watch cases, components, and dials in-house.

  • 1945: A representative office opened in New York City to support global distribution.

  • 1952: Following the massive popularity and prestige of their flagship line, Meyer & Stüdeli officially changed its corporate name to Roamer Watch Co. SA.

  • 1955: Roamer patented its famous Anfibio watertight watch case design, an innovative, highly durable, and dust-resistant case that became a massive commercial triumph.

  • 1960s–1970s: The brand introduced legendary sport, racing, and diver lines including the Mustang, Rockshell, and Stingray. 1972: Roamer launched its first electronic quartz movement, named the Micro Quartz. 1975–1980s: Hit hard by the global quartz crisis, the company entered financial restructuring before shifting hands through various ownership groups, including the General Watch Co. and Chung Nam Watch Co.

  • 2003: Roamer proudly returned to its mechanical watchmaking roots with the release of dedicated automatic collections.

  • Present Day: Headquartered in Wallbach, Switzerland, and operating under the Roamer of Switzerland identity, the company continues to produce classic Swiss-made automatic and quartz timepieces distributed globally
