The Buren Watch Company was a highly influential Swiss watch manufacturer whose landmark innovations in ultra-thin automatic movements permanently shaped modern horological history. 
Early Origins & British Ownership (1873–1932)
Foundation: Fritz Suter-Antenen founded the initial watchmaking facility in 1873 in the medieval town of Büren an der Aare, Switzerland. 
The British Era: In 1898, London-based firm H. Williamson Ltd. acquired the company. They expanded the factory into an international hub, officially branding the timepieces under the Buren Watch Co. name by 1916. 
Manufacturing Feats: During this period, Buren focused on in-house pocket watches and early wristwatches. In 1925, they patented a method for pressing gemstone bearings directly into place—a standard technique used in virtually all mechanical watches today. 
Independence & Military Recognition (1932–1965)
Going Swiss Again: Following the 1929 stock market crash, H. Williamson Ltd. collapsed. In 1932, a group of Swiss employees and local investors bought the factory back, renaming it Uhrenfabrik Buren AG. 
The "Dirty Dozen": During World War II, Buren was selected as one of the 12 elite watchmakers to produce custom, rugged field watches for the British Ministry of Defence. Collectors highly prize these wartime Buren military pieces today.
